These videos talk about the two ways to find a sequence: recursive or explicit. Explicit is what we have been using: we just substitute a number into an expression and solve for that term. A recursive rule uses the prior value to help you find the next value.
For instance, if I know the first term of a sequence is 5 and the rule is to add 2 to every term, my next term will be 7. The term after that will be 7 + 2 which gives me 9. The following term is 9 + 2 which gives me 11, and so on.
